The TB257FR is a six-ton class excavator built around Takeuchi's side-to-side offset boom. The boom shifts to either side of center, and Takeuchi states that with the boom stowed upright the upper structure rotates nearly within the width of the tracks. That lets it dig parallel to a wall, a curb, or a barrier.
It weighs about 12,675 lbs with a canopy or 12,930 lbs with a cab, with 52.3 HP, 12 ft 9.4 in of dig depth, 20 ft 4.6 in of reach, and 27.7 gpm of primary auxiliary flow. The cab tilts forward for service access. It is aimed at urban utility work, road and bridge projects, and other sites where swing room is limited.

The TB260 offers the same dig depth with a conventional boom and tail, higher bucket breakout force, and about 550 lbs less weight, which makes it the simpler choice on open ground. The TB370 is larger, about 14,850 lbs, with 56.9 HP and 13 ft 4.7 in of dig depth on a conventional boom. Choose the TB257FR when the work is against structures or in a narrow corridor.
